About

Welcome to Transition Town Stoke Newington’s website!

TTSN (Transition Town Stoke Newington) formed in the autumn of 2008 by a small group of people, some of whom knew each others, others who didn’t, who were inspired by the Transition Town idea and thought it could work in Stoke Newington.

Since, we have a grown into a bigger group and have had interest from lots of people.

According to the 12 step plan of Transition Towns, the first year is spent raising awareness in the community about what Transition Towns are, what Peak Oil is and how Stoke Newington can come together and change for the better.

This is the stage we are at now.

We had an event in Abney Hall on the 18th January 2009 which was a great way of letting people know that this initiative has begun in Stoke Newington.  As well as just getting the word out, we had speakers from groups that are already doing really exciting things in the community.

Our group has since grown and grown. We meet twice a month at the Pangea Project. These meetings are open to everyone, and this is when we talk about what’s going on, what we’re going to do and where we just generally throw around ideas.  We have now formed some “sub-groups” that concentrate on different areas that interest us (such as buildings, or food,  for example) and these group work on ideas and ways of getting Stoke Newington to work more sustainably. The sub-groups are open for everyone to join and meet at different times from the general meeting.

As we are a young group, we are organising ourselves and will be putting on more public events in the very near future. These will be talks, film screenings, discussion days and some more creative events as well.

To find out more about meetings and more details about what we have been up to, please take a look at our discussion site: http://ttstokenewington.ning.com/

Please do join up and feel free to post events that the group might be interested in, get involved in discussions and come along to a meeting. Any amount of time and involvement you can commit is welcome however much or little!

  1. Hi Eleanor,

I’m sorry that we haven’t got back to you sooner. We have a “ning” site now which is what we have been focussing on recently whilst neglecting this site a bit which is why I have only just picked up your message. Very sorry about that! I think you might have joined the “ning” site though already? If not, you’ll find it at: http://ttstokenewington.ning.com/
    Hope to see you soon,

Eleanor (Church-I am called Eleanor too)
